Wedding Bands: A Guide for the Groom

Wedding Bands: A Guide for the Groom
Choosing your wedding ring can feel like a big task in amongst the endless to-do list of planning a wedding.

Getting your wedding ring in time

It’s smart to select and purchase your wedding ring three months out from the big day to make sure you have enough time to find out your size, select your ring, to try it on and make sure you can get resizing done if necessary.

Making sure your wedding ring is the right size

Our ring sizer is the easiest way to work out exactly how big your wedding ring needs to be. It’s made of recycled eskaboard, made from 100% recycled paper. Just order one from us and we’ll send it to you for free. Instructions on how to pick the right size are printed on it, so it’s really easy to make sure you’re getting the right size ring.

Choosing your wedding ring

Choosing your wedding band can be overwhelming. Men’s gold wedding rings vary in style, thickness, metal and engraving. When it comes to making decisions around which wedding rings you’d like to wear for the rest of your life, it’s important to do what feels right for you.

We’ve seen many trends in men’s wedding bands come and go, from titanium or oxidised silver wedding rings, to black tungsten and even wooden wedding rings. At Good Gold, we make our gold rings from ethical white, yellow or rose gold. from there, it’s easy work out what thickness and engraving details will make your wedding band your own.

In 2018, Brad Falchuk chose a minimal thin band to match his partner Gwyneth Paltrow’s. More and more couples are choosing a simple, matching pair of wedding bands for their ceremony. The simplicity of our design means they can match nearly any engagement ring. We can adjust the width and polish finish to suit. We don’t denote men’s or women’s wedding rings: Good Gold wedding bands are for everyone. This classic look never dates, perfect for the rest of your lives together.

Making sure your ring will last

You’ll need to think about the sort of work you do - are you working with your hands a lot? If you have a physical, labour-intensive job it makes sense to choose a ring made from a strong metal that can withstand being knocked around. For example, yellow gold is less durable than rose gold or white gold due to it being a softer metal. If you don’t want it to dent or scratch, you may want to opt for rose gold or white gold if you have a physical job.

Shipping and Resizing

After you have decided which gold wedding band you want and ordered it, we’ll make it exactly to your specifications in our studio. This takes from 1-2 weeks. If you’re in a rush, just get in touch with us and we will try to accomodate you.

Shipping is usually overnight if you live in New Zealand, and can take up to a week if you live internationally. If you’ve left it a bit late and are in a hurry, select expedited shipping and it will arrive within 3-5 days.

When it arrives, try it on and make sure it fits. Your wedding ring should go over your knuckle and fit comfortably, but not move around too much. If you think you’ve got the wrong size, we’ll resize it for you for free. After your first resize, additional resizing is $30USD.

On the wedding day

Whatever you do, don’t forget the rings!

You could send your partner a gift on the morning of the wedding to let them know you’re thinking of them - and make sure you get some time together after the ceremony and before the reception to just hang out, the two of you.

Breathe. You’ve got this!

Couple's Wedding Ring Sets

Couple's Wedding Ring Sets

When it comes to choosing your wedding ring we believe the most important thing is that you love it, after all you're the one that will be looking at it every day.

In our opinion there is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing couple's wedding ring sets but we do have a few ideas to help make the choice that's right for you.

Matching Wedding Rings

By opting for matching wedding bands, the same metal, shape and width you could look at is as starting your married journey on the same level as each other, as equals.

Same Style, Different Width

Love the idea of matching wedding rings but can't find a width that works for the both of you? Opting for the same style but different widths could be the perfect solution. This looks great if there is a bit of variation between the two widths but in saying that, there's no rules here, so you do you!

Same Metal, Different Shape

Another great option for linking your rings is to choose the same metal while selecting your preferred ring shape. You can also mix up by choosing different widths that work for your hand.

Something Completely Different

Your wedding rings are a symbol of two unique people celebrating their love for one another. If different styles spark joy for each of you then why not embrace it and opt for unique contrasting wedding bands. You can always bring your rings together by having matching inside engraving on rings 3mm or wider.

Any regrets?

The beautiful thing about Good Gold is that you can return your ring at any time. If you wished you had made a different decision just get in touch!

Long Sleeve Wedding Dress Inspiration

Long Sleeve Wedding Dress Inspiration

We had the absolute pleasure of taking part in another stunning styled shoot by the talented Sophie Milson Photography featuring the dreamiest long sleeve wedding dresses from Wild and White.

We adore long sleeve wedding dresses. They are perfect for any season and add another level of detail to elevate your outfit. The design of these gowns feature off the shoulder sleeves for the best of both worlds of strapless and sleeves.

The subtle sheer sleeves of this gorgeous gown gives the outfit a soft and elegant feel and is perfect for warmer weddings.

We can't get enough of this subtle floral print. By having a more opaque fabric the puff sleeves become a standout feature of the dress.
We are head over heels with the cuff details of these long sleeve wedding dresses. By opting for a cuffed finish it emphasises the fullness of the sleeve and is a timeless and romantic style.
Our beautiful rose gold wedding band matched the elegance of these gowns perfectly. This ring is a 2mm wide flat band made in blushing 9ct rose gold with our matte finish. Browse our full range of special rose gold wedding rings here.

Good Gold Top Tip

When it comes to choosing particular flowers for your arrangements it's important to think about what will be in season for your wedding day. If you're working with a florist they'll give you the low down on exactly what they'll have available, if you're planning to do your own flowers be sure to do a little bit of research as to what will be in season and available to gather or purchase at the time.

Celestial Wedding Celebrations

Celestial Wedding Celebrations

The sun, the moon, the stars, we've loved seeing this cosmic trend make its way into the wedding scene. In this blog post we've put together some bright ideas for a celestial celebration with a little peek into our very own Ash & Laurel's special day where the stars aligned.

Your wedding invitation is the beginning of your journey, give your guests a taste of the celestial event to come. Ash & Laurel's invitations included their star signs as well as the Matariki constellation that Ash had mapped out in diamonds on Laurel's engagement ring many moons ago.

Keep your attire simple with little nods to your celestial theme or go all out! Ash made Laurel this epic gold constellation necklace and tiara as a wedding present, there are so many ways to thread this theme through your outfits and accessories in your own unique way.

Light up your wedding venue with twinkling lights and create your own Milky Way with hanging star decorations to dance the night away under. The sky is truly the limit when it comes to celestial decorations!

Wedding Rings. Go bright like the moon with white gold or sparkle like the sun with yellow gold. Add a celestial inspired inside engraving to your wedding bands as a reminder of your special day for years to come.

Intimate Farm Elopement

Intimate Farm Elopement
We were thrilled to be part of this intimate elopement shoot by talented photographer Mel Badsley across the ditch in Australia. Our sister company Ash Hilton Jewellery supplied the stunning engagement ring which was paired with our unique white gold wedding bands for this beautiful elopement inspiration.
Real-life lovers Jay & Mike are what made this shoot truly magical. These two had already done the legal part of their nuptials so this day was all about having fun celebrating their love for each other.
This special day was set at The Farm Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia. This farm estate is such a romantic location with awesome rustic farm buildings and rolling green hills. What farm wedding would be complete without some sweet farm animal friends!
We're totally obsessed with the stunning florals from this elopement inspiration. How good is the combination of neutral dried foliage with beautiful fresh florals in soft peach and rusty red tones.
This intimate wedding table looking out over the farmstead was the perfect end to an afternoon adventuring through the grounds. The gorgeous rusty colour palette was continued with all of the unique details including the epic wedding cake.
